Spring is beautiful, but it also comes with allergies. We want to go over ways that you can improve the indoor air quality in your home to reduce your allergic reactions to Spring.
Let’s start with the little things you can do.
- Make sure your windows and doors are sealed shut. The tighter the seal, the less likely pollen is to get into your home.
- Sweep, dust and vacuum often. The more you clean up, the less likely pollen is able to settle in your home.
- If you have pets, make sure they’re groomed often. Their fur can carry allergens into your home.
- Change the filters in your HVAC system. Clean filters mean they work better.
Those are small things you can do within your home to reduce the pollen count. To avoid having a pollen attack outside your home, try to avoid outdoors time between 5am to 9am. According to Miguel P. Wolbert, MD, that is the most common time for flowers to pollinate. If you want to jog, try switching from a morning jog to an evening jog.
Some bigger things you can do is have your air conditioner maintained or make the plunge and install an electric air cleaner. An electric air cleaner works to eliminate any pollutants in your home. So not only would it help you during allergy season, but cold season as well. To get an idea of how they work, check out this video.
