Owning a home is a huge responsibility, but these little tips will make sure your home will maintain it’s value for years to come!
Whether or not you’re a DIYer, these tips are easy enough for any homeowner to take care of on their own.
- First things first, safety. Periodically, about twice a year, check the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. Make sure they have fresh batteries and that they are working properly. I know this is an easy task to put off, but remember, this could potentially save your life.
- Wax your hardwood floors. Wood floors are a huge draw because they look nice and make for easy clean up, but they can lose their beauty if not properly maintained. Unless your wood has a polyurethane finish, they should be waxed every year or so.
- Try to avoid chemical drain cleaners. You can easily unclog a drain with a plunger or drain snake. Chemical drain cleaners can erode the piping overtime, leading to costly repairs. If it’s a serious clog, contact a plumber for help.
- Get your HVAC serviced at least once a year. This one isn’t for the DIYers, but DIY by using your phone to call a professional. Having a properly maintained, working like new HVAC system adds value to your home. If ever you were thinking of selling, you’d feel good knowing that the HVAC system you’re leaving behind will work for years to come. And if you don’t sell, then you’ll be comfortable in your own home for years and years and years!
